Chair sought for the TB Strategic Partnership Group


The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) is seeking applications for the post of Chairperson for the new Government/Industry TB Strategic Partnership Group (TBSPG). This is a challenging new appointment reflecting DARD’s desire to develop a long-term strategy for the eradication of TB in cattle.
The TBSPG will be a high level advisory group of independent members and senior government officials to advise the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The successful candidate will be expected to build on the existing EU Commission annually approved TB Eradication Programme.
The Chairperson will be expected to:-
  • lead the development of a long term strategy to eradicate TB;
  • produce an associated action plan to implement the strategy;
  • provide advice to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development on how the strategy and its outcomes can be achieved;
  • determine who should lead on the implementation of the various elements and how they will be funded;
  • contribute to the development of associated annual operational plans, targets and key performance indicators;
  • reach agreement with a range of stakeholders on their roles in delivery; and
  • further the objectives of securing the progressive reduction towards eradicating bovine TB by as early a date as possible.
The successful candidate will be expected to:-
  • lead the TBSPG in effective discussion and clear decision making;
  • represent the TBSPG in communications with stakeholders and others; and
  • provide advice to the Minister on the development and implementation of the strategy to progressively reduce and ultimately eradicate bovine TB in the north of Ireland.
The appointment is non-salaried and non-pensionable. The time commitment will be approximately 5 days per month. A daily fee of £300 and travel expenses will be paid. It is expected that the appointment will be for 3 years (renewable).
