The Department of the Environment wishes to appoint a Deputy Chair and new members to the Council for Nature Conservation and the Countryside (‘the Council’). This is an exciting opportunity to actively contribute to the development and protection of Northern Ireland’s beautiful natural environment.
Term of Appointment
The Council plays an important role in advising the Department on nature conservation and countryside management issues such as the designation of Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Areas of Special Scientific Interest, the protection of wildlife species and the management of land acquired for conservation purposes. In practice this can involve responding to planning applications, providing guidance and opinion on departmental policies and contributing to environmental consultation processes. All appointments will be for a three year term, effective from 18th February, 2015.
Time Commitment and Remuneration
The time commitment for each member is equivalent to approximately 2 days per month. The posts do not attract a salary but members are entitled to reasonable travel and subsistence expenses payable in line with current Civil Service rates. The time commitment for the post of Deputy Chair is equivalent to approximately 3 days per month and currently attracts remuneration of £6,525 per annum plus reasonable travel and subsistence expenses payable in line with current Civil Service rates.
Skills and Experience
No specific academic or other qualifications are required for the posts.
