Non Executive Chair and Executive Council Members – Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service Board

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety is seeking to appoint a non-executive chair and three non-executive district council members to the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) with effect from 1st September 2015.

Appointment to the Chair position will be made from (a) those found to be appointable in the previous competition (NIFRS 1/14) and (b) those who meet the criteria and are found to be appointable after interview in the current competition (NIFRS 1/15).
 

The NIFRS Board is responsible for ensuring that the Fire and Rescue Service fulfils its statutory obligations. This includes providing overall strategic direction of the Fire and Rescue Service, having due regard to the policy and resources framework agreed with the Department; ensuring that high standards of corporate governance are observed at all times; operating within the statutory authority and within the limits of its delegated authority agreed with the Department, as well as in accordance with any other conditions relating to the use of public funds; and overseeing the achievement of performance objectives, agreed with the Department, by monitoring performance against agreed targets.

Non-Executive District Council Representative Members – must be elected District Councillors at the date of appointment.


Essential Criteria for all applicants
The non-executive chair and non-executive district council members require no specific formal qualifications however all applicants must meet the following four essential criteria:

Business Sense; Corporate Governance; Stakeholder Engagement; Self Awareness and Personal Contribution.

Additional criteria for Chair Post

Applicants for the non-executive chair post must meet the following additional criteria: leadership.

Applicants can apply for one or more category of membership.

Chair Remuneration £25,701

Time Commitment 2.5 – 3 days per week

District council member remuneration £5,962

Time Commitment 3 days per month
