Search is on: Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland

The Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) wishes to appoint a Commissioner for Older People to champion the interests of older people. The appointment will be a full time position and will be for a four year term, which may be renewed once, however this would also be subject to satisfactory performance.

The post of Commissioner is an independent, high profile, and influential position. There are significant expectations of the important role that the Commissioner will perform in promoting and representing the interests of older people. 

The Commissioner has a wide range of promotional, advisory, educational, legal and investigatory functions, powers, and duties. He/she will have a key role in promoting and safeguarding the interests of older people; advancing equality, challenging discrimination, and empowering and enabling the voice of older people.

To be considered for this post, you could come from a wide variety of backgrounds. You must be able to demonstrate strong leadership ability with excellent communication and presentation skills. You will have held a senior position in a business, voluntary, public or other appropriate organisation and have demonstrable financial, governance, people and management skills. You will have a successful track record of building positive relationships with stakeholders.

You will be able to show a commitment to the interests and an understanding of the issues relevant to older people and will have effective advocacy and negotiating skills. You will be able to influence a wide range of agencies and organisations in order to achieve results for older people.
