Appointments extended for two members of the CCEA

The Department of Education has today announced the extension of the terms of appointment of two CCEA Board members.

The following members’ terms of office have been extended until 30 September 2016.

Michelle Crilly has been a member of the Council since 2006. A former lecturer and Director of Education at Queen’s University Belfast, she brings to her current role considerable experience, skills and knowledge of higher education and of audit and risk management. She does not currently hold any other public appointments and has not undertaken any political activity in the last five years.

John Wilkinson OBE has also been a member of the Council since 2006. Awarded an OBE in 2013 for services to education, he is a former Principal of Dromore High School and brings to his current role considerable experience, skills and knowledge of the education system and of audit and risk management. He does not currently hold any other public appointments and has not undertaken any political activity in the last five years.

Notes to editors:

1. CCEA was established on 1 April 1994 and is a statutory body that provides advice to DE and DEL on matters relating to the curriculum, assessment and examinations for children in schools and colleges. The Council members are appointed by the Minister for Education in accordance with Schedule 3 of the Education (NI) order 1998.

2. Council membership comprises a Chair and 13 members. Members do not receive remuneration in respect of their appointment, although they are entitled to receive travel and subsistence allowances.

3. Appointments have been extended pending a new public appointment process.

4. These appointments have been made in accordance with the principles and practices of the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments. Appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Commissioner requires the political activity of appointees to be published.
