Wanted: Discretionary Support Commissioner

As part of the forthcoming changes to the welfare system, Community Care Grants and Crisis Loans for household items and living costs will be replaced by a new type of help called Discretionary Support. As part of this change, the Department for Communities is seeking to appoint a Discretionary Support Commissioner who will be an independent, statutory office holder appointed by the Minister.

Located in Belfast, the Office of the Discretionary Support Commissioner is being established to provide an independent review of decisions made by the Department for Communities in respect of applications for Discretionary Support.  The Commissioner will appoint a team of Inspectors and a small administrative team.  The Department for Communities will remunerate the Commissioner and pay the salaries of staff and expenses incurred in exercising their duties.    Ref:   IRC209274

Time Commitment: Normally 1 day per week.
