Voluntary Board Members sought by Action for Children

Looking for a fresh and exciting challenge this year? Are you passionate about making a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in Northern Ireland?

Action for Children’s flagship event Byte Night is looking for volunteers to join our Northern Ireland board of senior executives representing an array of national and global companies.  We’re ambitious for the children and young people we help through Byte Night. With the support, guidance, expertise, energy and networks of our board members we want to build on our success to date and take Byte Night to the next level.

Byte Night is Action for Children’s biggest annual fundraiser; a national ‘sleep-out’ event which consistently raises over £1 million. This year, over 1,700 like-minded professionals from the technology and wider business arena will give up their beds for one night to help change the lives of vulnerable young people.  It all began in 1998 when 30 individuals slept out in London and raised £35,000. Since then, Byte Night has evolved to become the UK’s largest corporate sleep out event with 10 UK locations taking part in 2017.  The suitable candidate will be a leader in their field with the enthusiasm, knowledge and commitment to drive the success of the Byte Night fundraising sleep out.  They will provide time, contacts, advice and expertise in order to support the fundraising activity of Byte Night in Northern Ireland.  No particular knowledge is required, however board members should hold a senior position in their organisation and have the requisite leadership skills and business contacts to drive the success of Byte Night in Northern Ireland.

The Byte Night Board meets once a month, usually over lunch time on Friday for an hour’s meeting.  Attendance at the Byte Night launch event is required, as well as a commitment to sleep out on Byte Night itself (6th October 2017).   Board members should also be able to commit the time to communicate between meetings as necessary.

Will you help us drive the ongoing success of Byte Night?  We’re looking for new board members in Northern Ireland now.

To apply for this role please forward your CV and covering letter to Julie Harvey julie.harvey@actionforchildren.org.uk before 31 May 2017, or to find out more about the opportunity please call 0772 0338 046. Visit www.bytenight.org.uk to see why Byte Night matters and who takes part.

About Action for Children

Do what’s right for children. Do what’s needed. Do what works.
From before they are born until they are into their twenties, we help disadvantaged children across the UK. We do it through practical services and programmes that are proven to work.

We help children through fostering or adoption. We intervene early to stop neglect and abuse. We make life better for disabled children. We influence policy and advocate for change. In Northern Ireland our 200 staff and volunteers run nearly 30 services, from family centres to intensive support services, youth work to residential care homes. Together, we make a difference to the lives of 6,000 babies, children, teenagers, parents and carers every year.

From our origins running children’s homes, we have spent 147 years on the front line, developing services that set a lead for others to follow.  We have grown and changed since then but still care about each child and every family.  We have been working in Northern Ireland for over 16 years and we succeed by doing what’s right, doing what’s needed, and doing what works for children.
