Board Members wanted by Garvagh Enterprise Trust…

Garvagh High School closed in August 2013 which triggered an extensive community conversation on the potential of the 4-acre site nestled in the 600 acre Garvagh Forest; once all part of the Canning Family estate who established Garvagh.

Garvagh Enterprise Trust (GET), a company limited by guarantee, was established in 2015 to explore the regeneration potential of the former Garvagh High School site as a shared innovation hub growing learning, innovation and well-being. Over the last two years we have been exploring the feasibility of a community asset transfer with the support of Development Trusts NI from the Department of Education.  

GET has engaged in extensive community consultation and has completed a number of feasibility studies with high level business plan. The key project ideas for the site include a mountain bike trail head with associated services and infrastructure, a Forest Glamping Site, business incubation units, Garvagh Forest School workshops, expansion and development of Garvagh Museum including the development of the old red-bricked stables, a 4-G Pitch and the development of indoor and outdoor Forest Play. We are currently entering a new phase of developing in-depth economic appraisals for each phase of the development and identifying public and private investment.

We are looking for people who have expertise/experience in any of the following:

  • Social Enterprise
  • Accountancy/ Finance
  • Outdoor Recreation & Leisure Projects
  • Economic appraisals
  • Business Management
  • Project Development & Management

Full board meetings occur quarterly.

As a board member of GET you have the opportunity to do the following:

  • Share being part of an innovative organisation with a passion to ensuring that the former school site contributes to wider community regeneration and well-being.
  • Help to steer the strategic direction of GET.

This is a voluntary position and the initial appointment would be for a period of 2 years.
