Non Executive Directors – Care Quality Commission

The Secretary of State for Health is looking to appoint 3 Non-Executive Directors (NED’s) to the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC is the independent regulator of health and adult social care providers in England and has a key responsibility in the overall assurance of safety and quality of health and adult social care services.

We are looking for NEDs with experience and expertise from the following areas: patient safety and care quality, the business sector, adult social care, and Human Resource/Organisational Development (HR/OD).

As a NED of the CQC Board, you will be responsible for helping to ensure the CQC is a successful organisation. Non-Executive Directors play a key role in ensuring continuous organisational improvement, high performance management, excellent customer focus and service delivery, scrutiny, challenge, accountability, and effective corporate governance.


Person Specification

Applicants will have a career record of achievement, with an ability to operate effectively on the board of a high-profile national organisation. Applicants will also have an understanding of corporate governance and a commitment to the principles of public service. You will have good communication skills, with the ability to work as part of a team, with a positive and constructive style.

For NED’s who will bring experience in patient safety and care quality, you will guide the organisation as it implements its priorities, as outlined in the CQC’s 2016-21 strategy, Shaping the Future.

For the NED’s who will bring business sector experience you will require business acumen and experience to guide the organisation as it undertakes its transformation programme.

For the NED’s who will bring experience of adult social care you will require experience and understanding of the adult social care environment, with an awareness of the issues that can affect both service provision and patient experience within this sector, and the ability to articulate those issues in a board setting.

For the NED who will bring HR/OD experience you will have a proven ability and experience to support the CQC’s executive as the organisation undergoes cultural change in the transition to a digitally enabled organisation, using enhanced data analytics to shape the CQC’s inspection programme.
