Independent Chair – Inter-Departmental Working Group

Mother and Baby Homes/Magdalene Laundries and Historical Clerical Child Abuse

The Department of Health and The Executive Office invite applications for the appointment of an Independent Chair to the Inter-Departmental Working Group (IDWG) set up to consider historic Mother and Baby Homes / Magdalene Laundries and historical clerical abuse of children which fell outside the terms of reference of the Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry. 

This is an exceptional opportunity, which offers a rewarding and challenging leadership role which will be instrumental in delivering on the commitment to consider these important and sensitive matters and in driving forward work to develop recommendations on potential next steps.

Selection Criteria

All applicants must show on their application form, and if invited for interview, how they meet the following five selection criteria:

Leadership, Stakeholder Engagement, Communications, Analytical Thinking/Effective Decision Making, Personal Knowledge/Experience.

Remuneration –   £600 for each full day.

Time commitment – a minimum of 18 days (based on an 8 hour day) over the first 12 months of the contract. The Independent Chair will be appointed initially for a period of 1 year starting on the date of appointment (this may be extended and will be subject to negotiation with the appointee).
