NIW was established on 1 April 2007 as a government owned company with the Department for Regional Development (now Department for Infrastructure) as the sole shareholder. The Department is responsible for the appointment of the Board. NIW is responsible for the delivery of water and sewerage services in Northern
Ireland. There are approximately 875,000 households, businesses and agricultural users connected to the public water supply and 710,000 households and businesses connected to the public sewerage system.
The Department for Infrastructure wants to improve diversity on boards and wishes to attract a wide range of applicants for its public appointments.
Women, younger people, people with disabilities and people from ethnic minority communities are currently under-represented in DfI Public Appointments and applications from members of these groups would be particularly welcome. Applications from people who have gained suitable experience within the community or voluntary sectors would also be welcomed.
The current remuneration is approximately £40,000 per annum based on anticipated attendance of four business days per month. The Chair will be expected to attend Board meetings and other ad hoc meetings as required. This may involve a commitment both inside and outside of normal working hours, including representing NIW at occasional evening engagements. Meetings are normally held in Westland House, Old Westland Road, Belfast BT14 6TE.
