The SIA has two main duties. One is the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry; the other is to manage the voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme, which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed criteria. Search begins for new board members for the General Consumer Council
The Department for the Economy (DfE) is seeking to appoint three new members to the Board of the General Consumer Council (the Consumer Council).
The Consumer Council is a public body, independent from government, working to bring about change to benefit Northern Ireland consumers. Its aim is to make the consumer voice heard and make it count. It has specific functions in relation to energy, water, transport, postal services and food. The appointments will commence on 1 April 2018 and the term of office is three years. Continue reading

The Council has a range of responsibilities through which it advises on matters, such as, the scheduling of monuments, management and conservation of monuments in State Care, maritime archaeology, industrial and defence heritage, and Areas of Significant Archaeological Interest within Local Development Plans. Victim Support NI is a voluntary organisation which helps people affected by crime. It provides a free and confidential service and each year, Victim Support NI offers help to over 55,000 people who have been affected by crime. The organisation offers practical and emotional support through its Community service for those trying to deal with being a victim of crime, while the Witness Service takes witnesses, victims and their families through the court procedure when involved in a criminal trial.
