Search begins for new board members for the General Consumer Council

The Department for the Economy (DfE) is seeking to appoint three new members to the Board of the General Consumer Council (the Consumer Council).

The Consumer Council is a public body, independent from government, working to bring about change to benefit Northern Ireland consumers. Its aim is to make the consumer voice heard and make it count. It has specific functions in relation to energy, water, transport, postal services and food. The appointments will commence on 1 April 2018 and the term of office is three years.   Continue reading

Trustees sought for the RUC GC Foundation

The Department of Justice is seeking to appoint three part-time Trustees for a term of five years.

The Foundation

The RUC GC Foundation has many varied roles including documenting the history of policing, maintaining the RUC Memorial Garden at Brooklyn, and making a positive contribution to the professional development of police officers and policing, through a bursary scheme for serving police officers in Northern Ireland.

  • remuneration: Trustees are not remunerated but travel costs may be reimbursed where applicable.
  • period of appointment: Term of 5 years.  The appointments will be made around end of October/early November subject to a Justice Minister being in post.
  • time commitment: Approximately 4 days per month

Trustees wanted by New Life Counselling

New Life Counselling is a voluntary counselling agency providing free of charge and private counselling services within the community.  We are based in Belfast (offices in North and East) but support clients from across Northern Ireland.  We provide counselling for children, young people, adults and families for a wide range of referral issues including stress, anxiety, depression, self harm, suicide and many other issues.

Our work is delivered by professionally qualified counsellors supported and managed in accordance with recognised codes of practice and working in partnership with other service providers.

Our work reaches around 2,500 individuals per annum.  We have a turnover of £1m with service provision growing annually.  We have a team of 40 staff.

Our Board comprises a diverse range of skills including counselling/ psychotherapy, management, teaching, community development, HR & finance.  We are looking to expand the number of members on our Board.

We are interested in people joining us who are passionate about mental health service provision and can bring knowledge and skills in any of the areas of community development, charity governance, HR, finance, counselling – but a full induction will be given and ongoing training will be offered.  There are no pre-requisite qualifications. Prior experience on a board is not necessary.

Board meets quarterly for c. 1.5 hours on the a Monday evening from 5.30pm. Similarly we have 2 sub groups which meet monthly on a Monday evening from 5.30pm in between Board meetings.  All members are asked to take part in at least one sub group and commit to the following:

  • Attendance at board meetings
  • Take part in sub groups of the Board
  • Help out with recruitment panels when needed
  • Maintain good governance within charity
