The Independent Monitoring Boards (IMB) for Northern Ireland is seeking new members. There are vacancies on the Boards of all three prison establishments.

IMB members are independent volunteers, from all sections of the community. They are a group of ordinary people doing an extraordinary job.

The IMB is independent from the Department of Justice and the Northern Ireland Prison Service. Their role is to independently monitor and report on the day-to-day life in Northern Ireland’s prisons including the fair and humane treatment of prisoners, the facilities available to them to allow them to make purposeful use of their time, and the cleanliness and adequacy of prison premises.

To be a member you need to be able to commit time to the role, to be open-minded, and a good communicator, work with a diverse range of people and be able to make sound objective judgements.

This is a challenging yet rewarding role, which offers a great opportunity to give something back to your community and gain transferable employment skills such as decision making, teamworking and influencing others.

Appointment will be made on merit from those individuals who best satisfy the essential criteria.
