The Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee (NIFAC) advises the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on food policy and food issues relating to Northern Ireland, contributing to the protection of public health and consumers’ wider interests about food.

The FSA wishes to appoint three new members to NIFAC, with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • The food industry (agricultural to retail)
  • Public health
  • Consumer interests
  • Education (in a relevant subject matter)
  • Nutrition
  • Food and Agricultural Science.

Committee roles involve a time commitment of 20 days per annum, during which you will prepare for and attend Committee meetings. Appointments to the Committee are made by the Minister of Health, usually for a three-year term, and attract a remuneration of £3,885 per year (non-pensionable).

We would particularly welcome applications from people under 30 years of age, members of ethnic minorities and people with disabilities, as these groups are currently under-represented in the Committee.

Full details of the positions, including criteria required for appointment, are set out in the application pack, which can be downloaded from www.food.gov.uk/nifac

Completed application forms should be emailed to Michael.sewell@food.gov.uk by 4pm on 28th November 2023.

The FSA is committed to the principle of public appointments based on merit with independent assessment, openness and transparency of the process and is committed to the principle of equal opportunity in making public appointments.
