Independent Member to the Agricultural Wages Board

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is initiating a Public Appointment for an Independent Member to the Agricultural Wages Board (AWB).  Any appointment from this competition will be made by a Minister. AWB is a DAERA Executive Non-Departmental Public Body (NDBP) set up under the powers of the Agriculture Wages (Regulation) (Northern Ireland) Order 1977.  If appointed, the successful applicant will help influence the employment conditions for agricultural workers throughout Northern Ireland.

Chairperson – Agri Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI)

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is seeking to appoint a Chair to the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI).  AFBI is a DAERA Executive Non-Departmental Public Body (NDBP) set up under the powers of the Agriculture (NI) Order 2004.  It is empowered under the Order to undertake scientific work (research and development, testing, advice and information on scientific matters and dissemination of the results of scientific research) in the fields of agriculture, animal health and welfare, food, fisheries, forestry, the natural environment and rural development and enterprise.  Further information about the organisation, can be obtained from the AFBI website at www.afbini.gov.uk.

Time Commitment and Remuneration: Chair role requires approximately 40 days per annum. This position is remunerated at £26,510 per annum (currently under review). Member wanted for NI Food Advisory Committee

As a modern regulator and independent Government body, the Food Standards Agency in Northern Ireland (FSA in NI) protects NI consumers with effective enforcement and advice on diet, nutrition and healthy eating.  The Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee (NIFAC) acts as an advisory body to the Agency and is chaired by the Northern Ireland member of the FSA Board. NIFAC’s role is to provide advice and information to the FSA, across its remit with a focus on Northern Ireland.

The FSA in NI wishes to appoint one new member to NIFAC in 2017.  The role involves a time commitment of 2/3 days per month, including committee meetings and preparation time, and attracts a remuneration of £5,319 per year (non-pensionable). Appointments are normally for a two or three year term and are made by the Minister of Health.
