Chair and Members sought for Historic Buildings Council

The Department for Communities invites applications for the appointment of a Chair and 7 Members to HBC.

The role of the Council is to provide independent advice to the Department on the listing of buildings, the general state of listed buildings and other matters related to their preservation. This is an opportunity for individuals to make a significant contribution to Northern Ireland’s historic environment.

Applications are welcome from a wide range of people who have an interest in public service, including those with experiences such as community involvement or charitable and voluntary work. We would particularly welcome applications from women, people with a disability, young people and people from minority ethnic groups for these positions. A Guaranteed Interview Scheme is in place for those applicants with a disability.

Chief Commissioner wanted

The Department of Justice (DoJ) wishes to appoint a Chief Commissioner to The Planning Appeals Commission (PAC).

The Planning Appeals Commission (PAC) and Water Appeals Commission (WAC) are Tribunal NDPB’s of the DoJ and are administratively supported by the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service (NICTS). They have a range of statutory functions relating to planning and environmental matters to decide appeals from decisions by Local Government, Assembly Departments and to report to Assembly Departments on matters which those Departments refer to the Commissions.

The Chief Commissioner is the most senior source of professional expertise in the Commissions and the role holder must lead, direct and fully understand the work of individual Commissioners and of the Commissions, and promote public understanding of their role in the planning and environmental processes.

This is a full-time, permanent public appointment.

The office of the Commissions’ is located in Belfast but the Chief Commissioner is required to travel throughout Northern Ireland.

Remuneration will be in the range of £66,850 to £78,275 per annum.
